Wooster, Ohio – After moving the game up to account for the impending winter storm, the Oberlin College men's basketball team traveled to Wooster for a North Coast matchup. The Saturday soiree saw the Yeomen fall 74-66 and even out to 9-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Rob Magner and
JJ Gray shared the offensive load, each accounting for 15 points. Magner added another five rebounds and two steals, while Gray finished with a one each.
Sam Kamenko came just one rebound short of a double-double, cashing in ten points and nine rebounds.
After the Fighting Scots capitalized on their first offensive possession, Gray responded for the Yeomen with four-straight points to take the lead. Wooster climbed back into the race and the two NCAC foes carried out a tightly contested first half.
After scoring nine unanswered points to close the half, Wooster continued their run with six more points to start the second. Magner broke the drought for Oberlin with a layup after a steal, but the Yeomen faced an 11-point deficit. Kamenko and Smith combined for the Crimson and Gold's next seven points, ultimately cutting the lead to six. A pair of free throws from Gray brought Oberlin within four with ten minutes remaining.
Wooster picked up their pace after Oberlin threatened their lead, scoring ten points in two minutes to go 11 over the visitors. Needing a big push in the final minutes,
Zach Bronson began the charge with a jumper, followed by back-to-back Magner triples. Facing just 26 seconds to score eight points, the Yeomen were unable to overcome their early miscues and fell to the Fighting Scots on the road.
The Crimson and Gold take a short break before they hit the road again, this time heading south to take on the Denison Big Red. Tip-off on Wednesday, January 28 is set for 7 p.m.
