Erie, Pennsylvania - The Oberlin College swim and dive teams split the meet as they faced off against Division II opponents in a double-dual meet on Saturday.
The Yeowomen defeated Malone 153-119 before falling to #47 Gannon 216-70. The Yeomen secured a 227-69 victory over Malone before coming up short against #36 Gannon, 205-99.Â
In the 400-yard medley, the team of James Moll, Charles Matia, Leo Powers, and Chahine Saïd finished third, recording a time of 3:37.03.Â
Cam Mauer led Oberlin in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in a time of 12:00.00, while Saïd finished as the runner-up with a time of 10:21.78.
Winning the first of two events, Miguel Siwady claimed the top time in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:47.76. In the 100-yard backstroke, Maya Edwards produced a time of 1:05.36 to finish third overall.Â
In the 200-yard butterfly, Kaylee Johnson finished as the runner-up, posting a time of 2:21.77. Katherine Noller followed in third with a 2:25.65 while Kendall McKelvey finished in fourth with a 2:30.57.Â
Tying for third in the 50-yard freestyle, Powers and Zach Black registered times of 22.30.Â
In the 1-meter dive, Elizabeth Huettig placed second with a score of 136.35. On the men's side, Oberlin grabbed the top two positions as Sebastian Lagasse won in 175.40 and Yuan Wang finished as the runner-up (158.75).Â
Finishing as the top performer for the Crimson and Gold in the 500-yard freestyle, Johnson notched a time of 5:42.98, placing third overall. Saïd followed, winning the men's race with an overall time of 4:57.48.Â
The Yeomen added points in the 3-meter board as Lagasse (183.15) and Wang (156.10) claimed the top performances.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Gretchen Lotter touched the wall in 5:10.06 to finish third while Katherine Noller placed fourth with a time of 5:20.94. Siwady won his second event of the day in the men's 400-yard IM delivering a time of 4:21.39.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Yoo Soomin, Hailey Hamilton, Lotter, and Nyrobi Whitfield touched the pads in 3:57.61 to finish in bronze while the quartet of Saïd, Black, Kye Marrero, and Moll wrapped up the day placing third with a 3:19.49.Â
"Both teams did a great job of competing tired today. This weekend and next we want to provide some back-to-back competition to help prepare for NCAC's," Head Coach Alex de la Peña adds. "Both the swimmers and divers have been working hard through winter term so far and it showed in the meets this weekend!"
The Crimson and Gold will host John Carroll on Friday, January 23. The first event is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
