Grove City, Pennsylvania – Traveling east for a Friday night matchup, the Oberlin College men's soccer team battled Grove City. Falling in a 4-0 test, the Yeomen move to 1-2 overall.
Splitting time in cage,
Lukas Verling earned the start for the Crimson and Gold, followed by
Vince Fortuna in the 58'. Verling made six saves during his tenure, while Fortuna tallied three.
Graham Field and
Walter Gomez-Torres led the offense with a pair of shots each, followed by
Kelan Fay and
Michael Dolton with a shot apiece.
The first half saw a pair of GCU goals in the first 12 minutes, putting the Yeomen on their heels. Oberlin struggled to hold the ball on their end of the field, conceding a third goal to the Wolverines at the 18:35 mark. Grove City proved to push the limits of the Crimson and Gold, tallying another goal just minutes later to extend their lead to four.
Coming out in the second half, the Yeomen earned a corner kick opportunity but were unable to make much of it before the Wolverines regained possession. Oberlin's best scoring opportunity came at 78:09 when Gomez-Torres launched the ball towards the upper right corner of the net. Sending the shot just high, the Yeomen remained off the board. Grove City scored one last insurance goal in the final minutes to complete the 5-0 shutout.
