Granville, Ohio – Travelling south for their first conference game on the road, the Oberlin College field hockey team took on Denison on Friday night. Early striking from the Big Red proved the ultimate advantage, as Oberlin fell 2-0 to Denison. The Crimson and Gold move to 3-4 on the year.
Oberlin held off the first penalty corner from the Big Red, but the second one proved lethal after the PK pass led to the ultimate goal. The Big Red maintained possession through the half, earning another six corners. On their final chance before the quarter closed, Denison notched another goal to double their lead.
Refocusing during the break, Oberlin came out rallying and help the fiery offense to just two shots in the second quarter. Unable to score a goal of their own, the Crimson and Gold went into halftime down 2-0.
Backing
Janny McCormick in goal, the defense continued to hold Denison after
Elly Scheer blocked a shot from Bella Thomas. Oberlin came alive in the final quarter, not allowing a single shot from Denison. In the final minute,
Bella Tilford took a shot on cage that was blocked by a Big Red defender.
Denison hung on for the 2-0, while the Yeowomen return home without a goal. Oberlin takes a week off before hosting Concordia (WI) on Friday, October 3. The non-conference breaks get started at 7 p.m.
