Marietta, Ohio - Making the long trip to southern Ohio, the Oberlin College women's soccer team delivered a scoreless draw at Marietta on Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Crimson and Gold move to 3-4-3 on the year.
Senior Roam Redington appeared in the net for all 90 minutes of the match, tying her career-best by recording seven saves.
Marietta controlled time of possession for much of the match, outshooting Oberlin 13-3. The Pioneers opened offensive action early, sending a shot towards the bottom center of the cage as Redington produced the first save of the contest. Marietta added two more shots before the Crimson and Gold opened offensive play.
Finding an opportunity to get Oberlin on the board at 9:13, sophomore Emma Boyles sent a shot but was unable to convert her effort into a goal. The Pioneers posted two more on-target shots just below the crossbar, but Redington stood tall, keeping the opponents out of the net. With neither team securing a goal, the match remained scoreless going into the second half.
Both teams kept each other away from the striking zone for nearly ten minutes into the period until Marietta saw an opportunity at 54:21, sending the ball wide of the cage. At 62' the Pioneers sent a shot towards the top but was stopped by Redington's quick reaction.
First-year Emilia Rosic found a scoring opportunity and drilled the ball towards the top, but Marietta's goalkeeper kept Oberlin off the board. With ten minutes remaining, senior Madalyn New sent the ball towards the bottom center hoping to clinch the lead for the Yeowomen, but the Pioneers' keeper halted New's attempt. Marietta continued to control the ball, recording three more shots, but the Crimson and Gold defense kept them out of the net for the remainder of the match.
The Crimson and Gold will open North Coast play on Saturday, October 4, when they host Wittenberg for their Alumni Celebration Game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
