Soccer Celebrates Pride Night at Home

Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting their third annual Pride Game, the Oberlin College women's soccer team welcoming Heidelberg for a Wednesday night matchup. The Student Princes got the best of the Yeowomen, beating the home team 2-0.

Roam Redington clocked a full 90 minutes in goal, making six saves in the match. In the front, Zoey Edmiaston, Elena Foley, and Sophie Wilson all recorded shots on goal, but none were able to convert.

The Student Princes stuck first, scoring on an early shot after the ball dribbled past Redington. The sophomore keeper seemed to make the initial stop, but the ball continued to bobble and fell out of reach.

Down early, the Crimson and Gold responded with a shot from Foley at 12:10. Oberlin earned a corner kick, which Zoe Steinhauer took, but were still unable to find the back of the net. Nearing the end of the half, Heidelberg drew a penalty inside Oberlin goal box, earning a penalty kick at 42:22. Sending the ball to the right side of cage, Syd Hewer put the visitors up 2-0 on Oberlin.

Heidelberg continued to put the pressure on the Crimson and Gold backline, ripping off a pair of shots in the early minutes. Meena Lee gave the Yeowomen their first shot of the half, sending the ball just wide of cage. As the matched waned, Emma Boyles and Jemma Freestone took aim at cage, neither coming up with an answer. Breaking away from her defense, Wilson got the last touch of the game to prevent the blank, but again the Heidelberg keeper stopped the Obie short.

Falling to 3-4-2, Oberlin returns to action on Saturday, September 27 when they hit the road to southern Ohio. In their final match before North Coast action, the Crimson and Gold take on Marietta at 1 p.m.
