Olivet, Michigan - The Oberlin College women's soccer team cruised past Olivet 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Delivering their first shutout victory of the season, the Crimson and Gold improve to 2-2-2 on the year.
The goalkeeping pair of senior Alison Grant and sophomore Roam Redington split halves in the cage, with Grant opening the match and securing her first shutout of the season.
Oberlin dominated the possession in the first half, preventing Olivet from recording any shots. First-year Zoey Edmiaston took an early shot just over a minute into the game but was stopped by the Comets' Airanna Griecci. Opening scoring action for the Crimson and Gold, sophomore Skylar Leung drilled a shot into the back of the net to produce her first career goal. Oberlin continued to put offensive pressure on Olivet, but Griecci kept the Crimson and Gold out of the net for the remainder of the period, entering the second half with a 1-0 lead.
Senior Zoe Steinhauer registered her first collegiate goal at 55:36 to increase the Yeowomen's edge to 2-0. Less than five minutes later, sophomore Emma Boyles sent a pass to Edmiaston, converting her shot into a goal to extend Oberlin's lead to 3-0. The Crimson and Gold continued to control the time of possession until first-year Lilly Kwiecinski sent a pass to classmate Molly Button to produce a fourth goal for Oberlin in the final ten seconds of the match.
"We're feeling really proud to pick up a win on the road," Head Coach
Taylor Houck remarks. "Plus, it's always great to get two in a row."
The Crimson and Gold resume play on Tuesday, September 16 when they face Otterbein for a 7 p.m. matchup.
