Meadville, Pennsylvania – The Oberlin women's tennis team kicked off its fall season with an impressive weekend at the Allegheny Invitational, highlighted by dominant singles performances and consistent doubles play.
Senior
Gabrielle Kirsch paced the Yeowomen, going a perfect 5–0 in singles. Kirsch notched straight-set victories over opponents from Baldwin Wallace and Allegheny, including a 7–5, 6–1 win against BW's Gillian Brown and a 6–1, 6–0 sweep of Allegheny's Mackenzie Burd. First-year
Moe Ariyoshi also delivered a standout weekend, rallying for a pair of three-set wins capped by a 3–6, 7–5, 1–0 (10–6) victory over BW's Samantha Thielen.
Hannah Soong added two singles wins, including a tight 7–5, 5–7, 1–0 (10–5) triumph over Allegheny's Anabel Bachman.
In doubles action, Kirsch and Ariyoshi proved to be a formidable team, finishing 4–0 with commanding wins over Baldwin Wallace duos and a 6–3 victory against BW's Colleen Andersen and Olivia Koutouras to close the weekend.
Olivia Wollner and Soong added a 6–1 victory over BW's Gillian Brown and Saraphina Groh, while the pairing of
Eva Lopez and
Olivia Guzman earned a 6–0 win against Andersen and Koutouras.
After a masterclass on veteran leadership and emerging talent, the Crimson and Gold look ahead to their next competition at the Woster Invitational on Friday, September 12 through Sunday, September 14.
