Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lacrosse Stiffed by Owls

Gambier, Ohio – Taking on one of the powerhouses of the North Coast, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team fell to Kenyon on Tuesday evening. The 19-1 defeat evens the Yeowomen to 6-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

Rookie Kylie Thompson scored the lone goal in the midweek matchup, a cross-field feed from Larissa Andrick that Thompson put just inside the left post. Although uneven by scoreline, the Yeowomen came away with 11 draw controls, led by Rachel Reiter with three.

The defense cleared 12-13 opportunities, while Phoebe Dolan, Alexandra Bernal, and Lauren Deardorf all caused turnovers against the Owls. Emily Berger anchored the goalie core with ten saves, marking her fifth double-digit save game. Additionally, this is the sophomores fourth game in a row with at least ten stops.

After holding Kenyon to four goals in the opening quarter, the Crimson and Gold gave up five more to fall back 9-0 at the halftime break. Picking up speed in the second half, Oberlin doubled up on their offensive production with 7-9 shots on cage.

Oberlin finally ended the drought with the opening goal of the fourth quarter to put Oberlin on the board. The genesis of the play came from a save by Janny McCormick, followed by a ground ball from Sophie Ward. After the rookie cleared the ball upfield, Alexis Escobedo got the first shot off before Thompson connected with the back of the net. Elle Lavin won the ensuing draw control, but the Yeowomen's momentum slowed thereafter as the Owls retook the game.

The Crimson and Gold spend little time on this loss before flipping their attention to the Wittenberg Tigers on Saturday, April 12. The road matchup is slated for 3 p.m.
