Lacrosse Tears Down Tigers on the Road for First NCAC Victory

Springfield, Ohio – Picking up a huge conference win on Saturday afternoon, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team down Wittenberg 13-6. Behind Megan Hiller's seven points, the Yeowomen improve to 7-6 on the year and 1-2 in the conference.
 
With six goals, Hiller bolstered her stat line with an assist and a pair of ground balls. Going 2-4 from the free position, the junior was followed by Larissa Andrick and Kylie Thompson who added two goals each. Olivia Corradi, Alexis Escobedo, and Phoebe Dolan all notched a goal in the win, while Corradi recorded an assist as well.
 
From the draw, Dolan had a career day with six draw controls, while Sophie Ward also cashed in a record day with five. Dolan added another four ground balls behind Rachel Reiter and Corradi who each scooped six. Causing two turnovers apiece, Maddie Darlington, Giuliana Urban, and Corradi led the defense. In cage Emily Berger anchored the backline with five saves through 60 minutes.
 
Escobedo put the Yeowomen on the board first, after Corradi found the senior in the eight for a score. The Tigers added a pair of their own before the Crimson and Gold caught fire with a three-goal run to cap the first period.
 
Up 4-2, Thompson extended Oberlin's lead to three a mere 42 seconds into the second quarter. Cut up by a goal from the Tigers, Oberlin's 5-1 run ended with a free position goal to cap the half.
 
Both teams bounced back to start the half, first with a goal from Wittenberg's Grace Kennedy. Hiller popped off for a trio of scored to give the Yeowomen a comfortable five-goal distance. Up 10-6 to start the fourth, it was all Oberlin to close out the game. With three unanswered goals, the Crimson and Gold defense held the Tigers scoreless in the final frame to clinch their first North Coast win of the season.
 
Oberlin takes a short break from their conference slate for a midweek matchup against Westminster. Traveling to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, April 16, the Yeowomen take on the Titans at 4 p.m.
