Oberlin, Ohio – Hosting Wooster for the first game on NCAC play, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team fell to the Fighting Scots 17-6 on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Crimson and Gold to 6-5 and 0-1 in the conference.
Phoebe Dolan and
Olivia Corradi scored two goals apiece, while Alexis Escobed and
Sophie Ward scored the remaining two.
Larissa Andrick and
Megan Hiller chimed in with a pair of assists. Escobedo added another three draw controls alongside
Rachel Reiter who also scooped three.
On defense,
Olivia Mohel stood out with a pair of caused turnovers and a ground ball, while
Kylie Thompson recorded five ground balls. In cage,
Emily Berger faced nearly 30 shots, making an impressive 11 saves against a powerful Wooster offense.
The Yeowomen jumped out early against Wooster, scoring off the stick of Dolan after Andrick found her inside the eight. Wooster responded just one minute late with a goal from the free position. The Fighting Scots added three more to close out the quarter, up 4-1.
Straight from the draw, Corradi ended the drought for the Crimson and Gold off a pass from Hiller. Unable to connect on their opportunities, Oberlin faced a 9-2 deficit with less than one minute remaining in the half.
Elle Lavin scooped up a save from Berger, moving the ball upfield to find Ward on offense. Getting fouled in the eight, Ward took the hash for a free position opportunities. The rookie put the ball in the back of the next to give Oberlin fresh momentum for the half.
Carrying the momentum over from the first half, Escobedo drove straight through her defense to score her tenth goal of the season. Oberlin held Wooster to just two goals in the third quarter, looking to mount a final quarter comeback down 11-4.
Wooster added two goals in the opening to minutes, split up only by a free position from Corradi at the 13:37 mark. The visitors continued to roll notching on a pair of insurance goals in the final five minutes of the game. Off the free position, Dolan tallied the final score of the game to put the line at 17-6.
The Crimson and Gold continue their tough conference slate with a road test against Kenyon on Tuesday, April 8. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
