Springfield, Ohio – After finding themselves down in the first quarter, the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team had a huge second period effort to take down Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon. The win moves Oberlin to 8-2 on the season at 2-1 in the NCAC.
Having a massive day on attack,
Christian Tacogue led the team with six points, scoring five goals and adding an assist.
Jacob Starcke continued his hot streak with five goals, while
Cooper Zancosky and
Andrew Rosa combined for five goals.
On defense,
Cooper Rand pulled in five ground balls and led the team with three caused turnovers.
Joe Chai caused three turnovers as well, while
Colin Taylor finished with two. The duo combined for three ground balls, while
Evan Sardina pulled in seven.
After Wittenberg got on the board first, a turnover on the offense caused by Chai gave the Yeomen a chance to respond. Zancosky wasted no time putting the ball in the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1. The conference foes swapped goals, followed by a pair of late scores from the Tigers to take a 4-1 lead into the quarter break.
It was all Oberlin coming out of the break, scoring seven-straight goals until Wittenberg ended the run at 2:35. The Yeomen saw three goals from Starcke during the run, in addition to three other goals in just over one minute. With a 9-5 lead after the Tigers scored, Oberlin added one more before the half on the shot from
Jack Duffy.
Wittenberg came out of the half ready to fight and closed the gap to three with a pair of quick goals. Picking back up, the Yeomen scored four unanswered goals, capped with a last-second shot from
Nicholas Cuda off a pass from
Solomon Brennan.
Rosa opened the scoring for the final quarter, followed by a goal form
Caden Evans with 10:47 remaining. With the game all but clinched Zancosky and Tacogue combined for the final three goals to give Oberlin the 19-9 victory.
The Yeomen return home for their first home match of NCAC play, hosting Kenyon on Wednesday, April 9. Honoring the
