Women’s Tennis Defeated by #20 Denison in Home Closer

By James Foster '26

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's tennis team lost 7–0 to #20 Denison University in their last home match of the season.

The Yeowomen got off to a rocky start in doubles, winning just three combined games across three matches. Fourth-year Anna Pastore and first-year Hannah Soong lost 6–1 to Denison's No. 1 duo, Maia Nowicki and Peyton Oda; second-years Rachel Allen and Freya Rahm fell 6–0 to Caroline Lopez and Dasha Chistyakova in the No. 2 slot; and Caroline Kittle and Elizabeth Hoo took down Oberlin's No. 3 duo, first-years Eva Lopez and Olivia Wollner, 6–2.

Although Oberlin failed to win a singles point, two of the matches were tightly contested.

In her last home singles match as an Oberlin Yeowoman, Pastore battled hard in a tough three-set loss. The fourth-year snatched momentum back from Oda by winning the second set 6–2 before falling in a 6–1, 2–6, 6–2 loss at No. 1 singles.

Eva Lopez quickly the first set to Caroline Lopez before ramping up her level in the second. The first-year's deft touch kept her in the match, before ultimately losing 6–2, 7–5 in the No. 5 slot.

Allen was able to grab only one game off of Denison's No. 2 Caitlin VanWinkle, bowing out 6–0, 6–1. Oberlin's No. 3 Rahm was trailing Caroline Kittle 6–1, 5–2, when she was forced to retire.

First-year Scarlett Kingston managed to earn only one game in each set of her No. 4 match against Chistyakova, while Wollner lost 6–0, 6–1 to Denison's No. 6, Anna Leach.

The Yeowomen end the regular season with a 7–9 record on the season and a 3-3 record in NCAC play, which earns the team the No. 4 seed in the NCAC tournament. Oberlin will take on No. 5 Ohio Wesleyan University in the first round of the tournament on Friday in Granville, Ohio. In their most recent matchup this season, the Yeowomen defeated the Battling Bishops 7–0. The winner of the upcoming match will have the opportunity to move on to the semifinals for a showdown with No. 1 seed Kenyon University.
