New Wilmington, Pennsylvania – Win their eighth win of the season, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team officially mark their winningest campaign in seven seasons. Taking down Westminster 16-10 on the road, the Yeowomen improve to 8-6 ahead of the final series of NCAC games.
Notching a career-high six goals and seven points,
Phoebe Dolan led the Crimson and Gold entourage in scoring. Following her was
Megan Hiller with a split point set of two goals and three assists.
Izzy Sunday added four goals while Oliva Corradi finished with three. With two points each,
Kylie Thompson and
Larissa Andrick rounded out the scoring.
Defensively,
Alexis Escobedo and
Maddie Weathers pulled in a pair of tumbles apiece while combining for four ground balls. On the circle,
Rachel Reiter led the team with a season-best five draw controls.
Janny McCormick and
Emily Berger split time in the backstop, making seven saves together.
Wasting no time, Sunday put Oberlin on the board first at the 13:21 mark. The Titans respond with three of their own, but the Yeowomen dished off a triplet of scores in 64 seconds.
Westminster rallied to tie the game at the beginning of the second quarter, but the two foes swapped goals before a Dolan forced a turnover on the offense and flipped the ball for a clear up the field. Notching a goal off the turnover, Sunday put the Crimson and gold on top, 8-7. After a huge save by Berger to keep the Yeowomen on top, Dolan cashed in her hat trick for a 9-7 Oberlin lead at the half.
The momentum continued for the Yeowomen, who shutout the Titan through the third quarter. Scoring five straight, Oberlin's 14-7 lead was cut by one on the heels of a failed free position from Westminster. The Oberlin defense held down the Titans over the rest of the game, going an even 2-2 to secure a 16-10 win.
Oberlin returns home for their next match against the 22
nd-ranked Denison Big Red on Saturday, April 19. The conference contest is set go up at 1 p.m. The game will also serve as the
