Orlando, Florida - In the first match of their spring break trip, the Oberlin College men's tennis team lost 6–1 to Hamilton College.

Playing at the United States Tennis Association's National Campus in Orlando, FL, the team came into the match fired up and despite losing all three doubles matches, the energy was high throughout the contest.
Shawn Lisann and
Brady Huggett dropped their No. 1 doubles match to Connor Griff and Antonio Jose Chavez, 6–3. Second-year
Zain Makada and first-year
Enrique Margain battled hard in the closest doubles match of the day and had a chance to break in the last game before losing on a deuce point to Lleyton Mendieta and Villam Aadamsoo, 6–4. In the #3 match, first-years
Max Brose and
Oliver Knijnenburg lost quickly to Anson Anderson and Charles Sternberg, 6–1.

The Yeomen did not fare much better in singles play, despite picking up one win. Second-year Benjamin Tichauer secured the Yeomen's sole point after winning the last two points of the match for a clutch 6–3, 2–6, 10–8 win over Hamilton's No. 5, Coby Feldman.

Lisann lost in two tight sets that took nearly two hours, 6–3, 7–5 to Mendieta in the No. 1 slot.

Margain's scoreline of 6–0, 6–3 suggests that his loss to Griff was a blowout, but the No. 2 match took over 90 minutes and featured numerous deuce games.

Makada and third-year
James Foster each grabbed only 5 games in their matches, with Makada losing steam partway through in a 6–4, 6–1 loss to Hamilton's No. 3 Anderson and Oberlin's No. 6 Foster forming a comeback but not being able to complete it in a 6–1, 6–4 loss to Nicolas Gritz.

First-year
Max Brose lost the longest match of the day in heartbreaking fashion. After taking the first set 6–4 against Sternberg, the No. 4 Yeomen lost the second 6–1 before quickly racing out to a 3–0 lead in the third. Sternberg leveled the set at 3–3 and the two players each held once before Brose broke for a 5–4 lead. After saving a break point, Brose hit a serve wide on the deuce side before missing a crosscourt backhand to get broken on a deuce point to tie the set at 5–5. Each player held once again before Sternberg ran away with the tiebreak for a 4–6, 6–1, 7–6 (1) win.

The Yeomen will be back in action on Wednesday for a two-match day, as they will take on Union College at 8:30 am before squaring off against Luther College at 5:00 pm.
