Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – The Oberlin College softball team came away 1-1 against Chatham on Saturday afternoon. Oberlin won 8-2 in game one, giving up the second game in extra innings, 5-4. The Yeowomen improve to 2-6 overall.
Hailey Alspach earned the start in the circle for game one, pitching all seven innings and collecting a career-best nine strikeouts. The junior also went 1-3 at bat and added a run to the game.
Oberlin jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead in the first inning, capitalizing off early Chatham errors.

Doubling down the left line
Leslie Sullivan brought
Wren Norris down the third base line to home plate. The heavy offense continue with an RBI triple for Freifeld to extend Oberlin's lead to 5-1. The Yeowomen added three more runs to their score to close out their highest-scoring game of the year.
Earning the start for game two,
Sophie Stone threw six strikes through 8.1 innings.
The Cougars struck first, scoring off a single in the third innings. A Sullivan double down center field, bringing
Grace Gordon and Norris around the bases to take a 2-1 lead. Chatham bounced back in the fifth to tie the game, the Norris brough
Jess Friedman home with a double. In the bottom of the seventh, Isabelle Griswold singled to left to tie the game.
With Soldo and Freifeld placed on second and third as per extra inning rules, Olibia Bey sacrificed out to left field to bring Bey to the plate. Forced to score in the bottom half of the inning, the Cougars did just that to stay alive in the game. The Yeowomen were unable to score in the top of the ninth, but Chatham found their way to the plate to take the game.
The Crimson and Gold return to Ohio for their next game next Saturday, March 22. Oberlin takes on John Carroll for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
