Oberlin, Ohio – Taking central Ohio by storm, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team made quick work of the Otterbein Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. The 16-3 win moves the Yeowomen back into the win column, at 3-4 overall.
Four different Obies tallied four points in the game, led by
Kylie Thompson who notched four goals.
Larissa Andrick and
Sophie Ward each finished with a hat trick and an assist. Rounding out the offense,
Megan Hiller added a pair of goals and assists. Four other Yeowomen tallied a goal in the game.
On defense,
Emily Berger made three saves over three quarters, before
Janny McCormick and
Taryn Schwartz came in to split time. The duo each made a save in the final quarter of action.
Alexis Escobedo pulled in three draw controls, followed by Ward with two.
Rachel Reiter finished with four ground balls, while
Phoebe Dolan scooped three.
Maddie Weathers also finished with three in addition to two caused turnovers.
After losing the opening draw,
Maddie Darlington forced a turnover just seconds later to help the Yeowomen grab the first offensive possession. Just 48 seconds into the game, Ward made good on a pass from Darlington to put Oberlin on the board.
Elle Lavin scored the only other goal for the Crimson and Gold in the first quarter, coming off a feed from Andrick.
After Otterbein took a 3-2 lead to start the second, Thompson converted her first free position to tie the game. It was three straight goals for Oberlin thereafter, capped by
Olivia Corradi scoring on while the Yeowomen were man-down.
Hiller made it back-to-back man-down, free position goals for Oberlin, who extended their lead to 7-3 at the beginning of the third quarter. The defensive prowess of the Crimson and Gold locked down the Cardinals through the entire quarter, giving up just two shots, neither of which were on goal.
After outscoring Otterbein 5-0 in the third, the Yeowomen did all but slow down to keep the pressure on the home team. Ward scored on consecutive free position shots to put Oberlin up double-digits. Behind another perfect defensive quarter for the Crimson and Gold, Oberlin held on to their lead for a 16-3 win.

Oberlin returns home for their next match against Allegheny on Wednesday, March 19. The midweek match is set for 5 p.m.
