Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Second Half Push Comes Up Empty for Yeowomen

Berea, Ohio – Battling through cold and rainy conditions, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse tell dropped a nail-biter against Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night. Traveling across the interstate, the Yellow Jackets bested the Crimson and Gold, 12-11, who now move to 2-1 on the year.

Standout first-year Kylie Thompson led the team in scoring for her third-straight game, putting away six goals and two assists. Izzy Sunday found her rhythm on attack as well, with her first hat trick of the season. Phoebe Dolan and Olivia Corradi also scored for Oberlin, while Megan Hiller added an assist to the offensive effort.

In the circle, Rachel Reiter came away with four draw control, while Sophia Ward and Corradi combined for five.

Emily Berger earned the start at keep, collecting eight saves and four ground balls. Maddie Weathers and Giuliana Urban led the defense with two balls each and a CTO from Weathers.

After Dolan put Oberlin on the board with a quick goal, the Yellow Jackets responded with back-to-back scores. Thompson burned her defense to tie the game at two, but it was the home team the rest of quarter to take a strong 7-2 advantage.

Baldwin Wallace extended their lead to six, with a shot from the free position. Ending the scoring drought, Sunday capitalized in quick transition to steady the offense. Thomson added score from rolling off the crease, before ending the half with a man-up, free position rocket into the back of the net.

Chipping away at the deficit, Sunday and Thompson got to work with consecutive scores just 90 seconds apart. At 6:43, Thompson scooped a loose ball and connected with Corradi to bring the score to 9-8. BW jumped back out ahead with a pair of goals to end the third period.

After back-and-forth action in the early minutes of the fourth, Thompson and the attack cut the lead back to two. Scoring again off the hashes, Thompson notched her sixth goal, making the score 11-10 with 6:26 remaining. A miscue by the Yeomen in the midfield led to a Baldwin Wallace goal that all but sealed the game for Oberlin. Fighting to the final whistle, Thompson found Sunday in the final three seconds to dump the ball for another goal.

Resiliency has been a primary focus for us, and this was the first time it needed to come out, and it did." Head Coach Malory Nadrah adds, "I am incredibly proud of this team for fighting from start to finish and maintaining their composure the entire game. Games like this are what will carry us far in the rest of the season."

The Yeowomen face a quick turnaround as they look to compete next on Friday, February 28, when they host Hope at 7 p.m.
