Oberlin, Ohio – Under the lights, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team suffered its second loss of the season to Hope on Friday night. The 14-9 contest evens out the Yeowomen's record at 2-2.
With her fourth-straight hat trick,
Kylie Thompson led the offense with three goals. Just behind the rookie sat
Megan Hiller and
Izzy Sunday with a pair of goals. Hiller added another assist to the night, while
Larissa Andrick accounted for three points as well.
After earning the start in cage,
Emily Berger was relieved by
Janny McCormick towards the end of the first quarter. The junior made seven stops before
Taryn Schwartz subbed in during the fourth quarter.
Defensively,
Maddie Weathers caused three turnovers on the Flying Dutch, aided by
Phoebe Dolan who chipped in for two. In addition,
Elle Lavin and
Alexandra Bernal scooped three ground balls each.
Splitting draw duties, Lavin,
Rachel Reiter,
Olivia Corradi, and
Sophie Ward all grabbed two draw controls.
The game got off to a quick start for both teams, beginning with a score from Hope at 14:13. After Reiter won the ensuing draw, Thompson stormed the crease for the equalizer. Oberlin was unable to maintain that momentum, giving up five answered goals. Capitalizing on a man-up opportunity, Andrick connected with Hiller to close the quarter.
Still man-up to start the second period, Sunday made quick work of the Flying Dutch to bring the score to 6-3. It was all Hope thereafter, finishing out the half ahead of Oberlin 10-4.
The long run continued through a pair of goals in the third quarter before Thompson ripped the ball into the back of the net off the free position. Thompson again found the goal as a result of a Dolan caused turnover in the midfield
With just shy of ten minutes remaining in the game,
Alexis Escobedo sprinted through the midfield with a goal in mind and cut Hope's lead to six.
Mary Rodman found Andrick for the final goal of the night, setting the final score at 14-9.
Oberlin takes a much-needed break before returning the road to take on Mount Union. The 7 p.m. game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 in Alliance, Ohio.
