Oberlin, Ohio – Dropping 20+ points for the third game in a row, Oberlin College men's basketball senior
Zach Smith led the Yeomen to a dominant 79-56 victory over Kalamazoo on Monday evening. The final win of 2025 lifts the Crimson and Gold to 7-5 on the season.
Scoring 20 points, Smith bolstered the stat sheet with another three assists and two rebounds. Beside him was
Augustus Donohue with 18 points, all coming from beyond the arch. Going 6-7 from three, the rookie came just one triple short of tying the all-time record for three-pointers make in a single game.
Defensively,
Jackson Reynolds recorded a pair of black and pulled in four rebounds.
Milun Micanovic and
Rob Magner tied for the team-led in rebounds with seven each.
After a slow start to the game, Oberlin's offense opened up with a 23-0 run beginning at the 6:28 mark. Kalamazoo scored just once in the final seven minutes of the first half, as the Yeomen held a 39-22 lead at the break.
Magner continued Oberlin's hot streak with a three-pointer to start the second frame, as the Yeomen continued to roll past the Hornets. Giving the Crimson and Gold their largest lead of the evening, first-year
Noah Kim hit a three-pointer for a 70-40 tilt.
Will Manfredi knocked down the next two buckets for the Yeomen, followed by
Shea Laursen and
Matthew Callahan to close out the night.
Head Coach
Shiva Senthil said, "I'm really proud of the guys tonight. We were man down with some injuries and haven't played a game in over two weeks, but everyone really stepped up. I love what we did on the defensive side of the ball and when we share the ball like we did today, it makes for a really fun game."
After the non-conference break, the Crimson and Gold return to North Coast action in the new year on Saturday, January 3 at Ohio Wesleyan. The road contest tips off at 3 p.m.
