Crimson and Gold Face Case Western Reserve in BW Holiday Classic

Berea, Ohio - Returning from the break at the Baldwin Wallace Holiday Classic, the Oberlin College women's basketball team took on Case Western Reserve. Dropping 68-55, the Crimson and Gold shift to 4-6 overall.

Katherine Csiszar registered her third career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in 24 minutes of play. The duo of Noa Brown and Gabby Peña-Hilzen posted 12 points each and a combined five rebounds from the bench.

On the defensive end for Oberlin, Csiszar produced a pair of blocks while Samantha Dormer produced a career-high three steals.

Trailing 4-0 in the opening minutes of the game, a jumper from Ellie Pollock-Ballard launched scoring for the Crimson and Gold. Receiving a pass from Angela Kumler, Peña-Hilzen leveled the match to 4-4 at 6:38.

Over the next three minutes, CWRU responded by recording the next six points to claim a 10-4 edge. Behind 13-8, Oberlin delivered a 7-0 surge to claim a slight 15-13 lead, but a final three-pointer from the Spartans clinched the edge leading into the second period.

Tied 27-27 with 3:56 remaining in the second session, Case Western Reserve recorded 11 unanswered points off a trio of three-pointers and a layup. A pair of made free throws from Krystal Montas broke the Spartan streak, but CWRU notched two more scoring opportunities to claim a 43-29 edge at the end of the half.

Despite opening the third frame with a Csiszar layup on the first possession, the Spartans executed a strong defense throughout the period. At 7:39 in the fourth session, Peña-Hilzen posted a shot from behind the arc, followed by a long-range shot from Brown to help Oberlin close the gap. Though the Crimson and Gold outshot CWRU 17-12, the Spartans secured the 68-55 victory.

The Crimson and Gold will return for the second day of the Baldwin Wallace Holiday Classic tomorrow on Tuesday, December 30 when they face Stevenson. Afternoon tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
