Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Cruise Past Buccaneers

Oberlin, Ohio – Notching their first win of the season, the Oberlin College men's basketball team stormed past Beloit on Saturday afternoon. Playing in game two of their own Tip Off Classic, the Yeomen secured the 57-43 victory.

Milun Micanovic and JJ Gray co-led the team in scoring with 13 points each. Micanovic pulled in another nine rebounds, while Gray contributed with four assists and three steals. Also finishing in double-digits, for the second game in a row, Zach Smith tallied 12 points on a pair of triples. Leading the team on the boards, rookie Sam Kamenko brought in 13 through 32 minutes of action.

The Yeomen jumped to a 6-0 lead to start the game, highlighted by a long three-pointer from Smith after Gray stole the ball from Beloit. Midway through the first half, Micanovic and Matt Andreopoulos put away quick layups to extend Oberlin's lead to 11. The Yeomen continued to roll past the Buccaneers, taking a 27-19 advantage into the locker room. Oberlin held Beloit to 4-23 from the field in the half, while scoring 11 points off the bench.

Coming out of the half, Oberlin began the second frame with another 6-0 run to keep the Bucs at distance. Outside of a short-lived run, the Crimson and Gold never let Beloit get within seven of the lead through the rest of the half. Oberlin led the entire game to clinch their first victory of the season.

"I was really happy to see our team's resilience this weekend. The tip-off classic is always a really important event for us, and although we didn't have the start we hoped for, I loved how our guys battled back on Friday and won a defensive battle on Saturday." Head Coach Shiva Senthil adds, "I am really excited to see this team grow. We are an unfinished product, but certainly show a lot of signs of being a really good team. Now we just have to keep working."

Oberlin returns to the court on Wednesday, November 12 when they host a foe from the west coast, Cal Lutheran. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
