Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yeomen Launch North Coast Action at John Carroll

University Heights, Ohio - Opening North Coast action on the road, the Oberlin College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to new NCAC opponent John Carroll. With the loss, the Yeomen shift to 3-8-1 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Sophomore Lukas Verling appeared in the cage for all 90 minutes of the match for Oberlin, registering three saves on the night. Despite holding a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks, the Blue Streaks outshot the Crimson and Gold 12-5.

Junior Leo Pelizzari-Astle launched offensive action for the Yeomen at 7:50, sending a forceful shot 20 yards out. John Carroll's Owen Szucs made the diving save to keep Oberlin off the board and quickly control the possession to their attacking end. Five yards out, the Blue Streaks sent a shot to the top right as Verling denied JCU a scoring opportunity.

Navigating through the John Carroll defense, senior Graham Field drilled the ball at 25' but was unable to convert his attempt into a goal with Szucs making the stop. Securing a freekick nearly 20 yards out and hoping to score the equalizer, junior Louis Gandelheid's shot was blocked by the Blue Streaks' backline. Neither team saw an opportunity to record another shot for the remainder of the period, going into the break scoreless.

Five minutes into the second half, John Carroll's Dylan Halm maneuvered through the Oberlin defense to slip a shot past Verling to score the first goal of the match. Hoping to double the Blue Streaks' lead, Halm sent another shot on target. Sending the ball past Verling, sophomore Kelan Fay produced the team save to keep JCU out of the net.

John Carroll continued to control offensive pressure for much of the half, adding three more shots. The Blue Streaks sent another on-target attempt as Verling picked up another save. Oberlin's final scoring opportunity came from Gandelheid in 87' sending the ball just above the cage. Unable to find the back of the net, the Yeomen dropped their conference opener 1-0 to John Carroll.

Oberlin will resume conference play on the road when they face Kenyon on Tuesday, October 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
