Greencastle, Indiana – Hitting the road to take on one of the best teams in the nation, the Oberlin College football team continued their NCAC season against No. 13 DePauw on Saturday afternoon.
Leading the passing game was rookie
JJ Racz with four receptions for 19 yards.
Jake Hughes pulled in three catches, while
CJ Cooper II and
Connor Steele each grabbed a pair of receptions.
Drew Nye was responsible for the passing game, starting his eighth-straight game.
In the backfield, a committee of Yeomen led the team on the gridiron, with
Jayden Eaton at the front.
Lance Slone and Hughes added to the effort.
Defensively,
Ramzey Lewis and
Jackson Bloomfield co-led the team in solo tackles, each taking down four Tigers. Veterans
Hunter Green and
Jacob Epps split the lead in tackles assists, each accounting for four.
Ako Taylor II and
Judah Moenoa added to the defense with five tackles each.
Jackson Garstka headlined the special teams' efforts, with 261 punt-yards.
The first half was highlighted by Racz and
Jacob Day, who made back-to-back receptions to drive the Yeomen to a pair of first downs. On Oberlin's first drive of the third quarter, Nye completed a pass to Cooper II for seven yards to move Oberlin up to their own 28. Nye's ensuing pass to Steele was broken up in the next play, forcing Garstka to punt away on fourth down.
Steele bounced back from the broken-up pass in the Yeomen's next drive, completing a pass from Nye for eight yards. Racz moved Oberlin ahead the next two yards, to get a first down late in the fourth quarter. Oberlin completed their last pass of the game to Hughes, closing out a 75-0 loss.
The Yeomen now turn their attention to next weekend, Saturday, October 11 when they host their Homecoming game. Welcoming Kenyon to campus, the Crimson and Gold kickoff with the Owls at 4 p.m.
