Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Oberlin Challenged by Fighting Scots on Wednesday Night

Oberlin, Ohio – Taking the pitch for a chilly, midweek matchup, the Oberlin College women's soccer team faced Wooster. The 2-0 skid saw the Yeowomen fall on the wrong end of a quick start by the Fighting Scots.

Roam Redington clocked 90 minutes in goal, making three stops and shutting out the visitors in the second half. Her backline, anchored by Emma Boyles, Jemma Freestone, and Ashlee Hiller slowed a fast-paced Wooster attack after the opening minutes.

Leading the offensive charge, rookie Molly Button recorded four shots in the match, while Samantha Dormer added two. Five other Obies ripped off shots in the game, but with only five falling on goal, the Fighting Scots held Oberlin at bay.

At the 5:17 mark, Wooster's Annie Henegar found the back of the net for the first score of the match. Button and Dormer responded with back-to-back shots, both blocked by Wooster defenders. After the Fighting Scots scored again in the 36', Oberlin made one final attempt to get on the board in the half. With the clock counting down, Button dribbled past one defender and turned to shoot the ball just outside the goal box. Without enough force on the ball, Button's shot fell right into the keeper's hands to close the first half.

Coming out of the second half, Oberlin's offense took a slew of shots, capped by a corner kick from Boyles to Freestone. Still on the hunt for a goal, Zoe Steinhauer and Skylar Leung added to the shot total but neither were able to convert. After Elena Foley shot just off target, Oberlin's last attempt came off the foot of Boyles. With 5:24 remaining, Boyles sent a rocket from well outside the box, but without enough momentum the ball fell short of cage.

Oberlin conceded the 2-0 loss, and look ahead to their final match of the season against Denison on Saturday, November 1. Hosted on Shults Field, the Crimson and Gold kick off at 2 :30 p.m.
