Crimson and Gold Blanked by DePauw

Greencastle, Indiana - The Oberlin College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to North Coast Athletic Conference opponent DePauw on Saturday afternoon.

Appearing in the cage for all but the remaining seven minutes of the game, senior Janny McCormick recorded a season-high nine saves through three and a half periods. Checking for the Crimson and Gold with 6:51 remaining in the game, sophomore Willow Maniscalco posted a save in her second appearance of the season.

The Tigers struck early, registering the first goal of the afternoon 31 seconds into the match after slipping the ball past the Oberlin defense. DePauw continued to put offensive pressure on the Crimson and Gold, adding five more shots in the opening period, but the Oberlin backline was able to keep the opponents out of the cage for the remaining 14 minutes.

Following a DePauw shot that was deflected off the post, the Tigers were able to regain control of the ball to drill a second goal at 17:02. With less than three minutes remaining in the half, the Tigers regained possession of the ball after a blocked shot to extend their lead to 3-0 going into the break.

Controlling time of possession for much of the third period, DePauw notched six shots as McCormick made three saves. Early in the 41st minute, the Tigers found the back of the net advancing to a 4-0 edge over Oberlin.

Checking in at 53:09 to relieve McCormick, Maniscalco served the Crimson and Gold between the pipes for the remaining minutes of the game. Securing a corner with four minutes until expiration, DePauw sent the ball towards the goal as Maniscalco kicked it away from the cage. The Tigers drew two more corners but were unable to convert their attempts. Sophomore Mary Rodman delivered Oberlin's best scoring opportunity from three meters out but was stopped by the DePauw goalkeeper.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday, October 25 when they host North Coast opponent Allegheny for their Senior Day & Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The match is slated to begin at 5:30.
