Oberlin Clears Geneva in Home Opener

OBERLIN, OH – Grabbing their first win of the season in their home opener, the Oberlin College women's soccer team took down Geneva 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Oberlin moves to a balanced 1-1-1.

Ali Grant and Roam Redington split halves in cage, combining for 12 saves in the match. Oberlin shared the ball well on offense, led by Sophia Timm-Blow, with a goal on five shots. Heather Benway and Tacha Lee added another pair of shots on cage, while Zoe Garver, Samantha Gilfond, and Lauren Roche also added to the SOG tally.

Geneva jumped out to the early lead, scoring at the 4:38 mark. Just ten minutes later, Benway shot down the right side of the field before sending the ball straight into the back of the net for the equalizer.

Tied up, the Yeowomen battled over the next thirty minutes, working their defense but coming up empty-handed. Breathing new life into the game, Timm-Blow's shot from nearly 30-yards out catapulted the Crimson and Gold ahead of Geneva, 2-1.

The impressive feats didn't stop there, as Timm-Blow sent another long ball from half-field down to Lee for the team's third goal. Lee dribbled the ball from the midfield right to the doorstep of cage, where she sidestepped her defender for the short-corner score.

Oberlin cruised through the remaining 20 minutes of action to notch their first win of the season.

Oberlin will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Muskingum for their next match on Wednesday, September 11, at 7 p.m.
