Meadville, PA - The Oberlin College men's tennis team opened its 2024-25 season at the Allegheny College Invitational over the weekend.
The Yeomen earned nine combined wins at the event with seven of those coming in singles play.
Sophomore
Tory Johansson picked up a 7-6, 6-0 win over Jacob Weingart of Baldwin Wallace University and he would later dispatch the Yellow Jackets' Henry Harders 2-6, 6-4, 10-3.
Zain Makada took down Masayuki Matsuno of Division II Edinboro by matching 7-5 counts, while fellow sophomore classmate Ben Tincher made short work of Avik Agrawal from Division II Mercyhurst, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Oberlin's rookies also got into the winner's circle for the first time in college as
Max Brose upended Justin Hardie of Allegheny 7-6 (7-2), 6-3. Fellow newcomer
Enrique Margain defeated Rocco Palombarini from Edinboro 6-4, 6-2, and classmate
Oliver Faranda secured a Division II victory with a 6-1, 6-3 thumping of Kazumasa Sadohara from Mercyhurst.
The first-year tandem of
Oliver Knijnenburg and
Brady Huggett earned a 6-2 win in doubles action against Arick Baldwin and David Rodriguez of Allegheny. Additionally, Makada and Brose wasted no time in getting the Baldwin Wallace pairing of Vinny Cannata and Jacob Weingart to succumb to a 6-1 defeat.
Oberlin will be back in action September 21-22 at the Kenyon College Invitational.
