GAMBIER, OH- Getting their conference season underway, the Oberlin College field hockey team dropped a tough, 3-0 battle to Kenyon on Wednesday afternoon. The Yeowomen fall to 0-4 overall, and 0-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Janny McCormick minded the goal for the Crimson and Gold, picking up ten saves in the matchup. On the attacking end, newcomer
Sara Baunoch led the way, taking the team's only shot on cage at the 20:58 mark.
Oberlin managed to control the Owls through the opening minutes of the match, holding them without a shot until the 10:07 mark. The second-year keeper out of Arlington, VA held Kenyon off the scoreboard behind five stops in the first quarter.
It wasn't until the final ten minutes of the half that Kenyon finally capitalized on their attack. After the Crimson and Gold backline blocked a shot, the Owls found the rebound to put in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Less than one minute later Kenyon extended their advantage to 2-0 ahead of the halftime break.
Coming out of the locker room, Oberlin rallied to challenge the NCAC foes, culminating in a shot on cage from Baunoch late in the third quarter. Kenyon added one more insurance goal in the final period of play, scoring in the final three minutes of action.
Oberlin returns to the pitch for their home opener this Saturday, September 21 when they host Washington & Jefferson at 12 p.m.
