Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer Upended by Wilmington at Home

OBERLIN, OH – The Oberlin College women's soccer team struggled to get their offense going as they fell 6-1 against Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. Faulting at home, the Crimson and Gold drop to 2-2-1 on the season.

Ali Grant and Roam Redington split time in cage, collecting a combined seven saves. Samantha Gilfond led the offense with the lone score of the game, while another shot of cage earlier in the match. Meena Lee also finished with a pair of shots on target, in addition to seven other Obies who added at least one shot.

After the Quakers jumped out to a quick lead in the 11', Oberlin settled in on defense to quell the visitors. The Crimson and Gold's first chance to tie the match came at the 33:58 mark when Lee sent the ball towards net. Stopped short of the goal line, Oberlin faced a one-goal deficit at the half.

A halftime break didn't help Oberlin's offense regain control of the game, as Wilmington added two more goals before the ten-minute mark. It was little much the Yeowomen could do to slow the Quakers, but Redington's reaching save in the 60' helped maintain the barrage.

Oberlin's sole bright spot came in the 81', when Izzy Hyman's corner kick was bounced out of the box and right to the foot of Gilfond. Winding up for a low-center shot, Gilfond tallied her first goal of the season to cut into the 5-0 hole.

The Crimson and Gold gave up one more goal just 30 seconds later to finish in a 6-1 loss.

Oberlin will look to bounce back later this week when they continue their homestand on Wednesday, September 18. The Yeowomen host the Otterbein Cardinals for a nightcap, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
