BEREA, OH- The Oberlin College softball team played a pair of highly contested games against Baldwin Wallace on Sunday afternoon. The Yeowomen dropped the first game 1-0, but stole game two 9-7. Oberlin improves to 6-24 and 2-10 in NCAC play.
GAME ONE | Baldwin Wallace 1, Oberlin 0
The Oberlin Yeowomen were not able to notch a run against Baldwin Wallace Sunday and were shut out 1-0 by the Yellow Jackets.
Sophomore
Hailey Alspach started and took the loss in the circle for Oberlin. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing no walks, and striking out four.
Offensively, the Crimson and Gold were paced by senior
Mia Brito, who went 2-for-3 on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oberlin managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Yeowomen last got a runner on third in the fifth, when senior
Alaina Di Dio made it 60 feet away from scoring with nobody out.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the bases loaded, the Yellow Jackets hit a short ball up toward
Loren Carter. Deciding to throw the ball in hopes of forcing the out at home plate,
Wren Norris was unable to deliver the out as Oberlin took the walk-off loss.

GAME TWO | Oberlin 9, Baldwin Wallace 7
Down 7-3 in the sixth inning, Oberlin tallied six runs in the seventh to earn a 9-7 victory over the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets in game two of the Sunday doubleheader.
Katie Austin got the win for the Crimson and gold after going. The
right-hander went 6.1 innings and struck out six batters.
At the plate, the Yeowomen were also led by Austin, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBIs. Norris compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Di Dio also chipped in for Oberlin, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yeowomen were trailing 2-0 in the second when Di Dio came across to score the lone run of the inning for Oberlin and get them on the board. Oberlin kept the deficit at 2-1 before tying the score in the third after
Gina Lombard came across to score for the Crimson and Gold.
Baldwin Wallace busted up the tie and grabbed a 5-2 lead moving into the sixth, but the
Kailey Dunham's single to center field helped bring Norris home and cut the lead to two.
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 7-3 the following inning, before the Oberlin offense came alive in the final inning. The Yeowomen scored six runs in their last chance at bae, highlighted by a one-run error off the bat of
Jess Friedman. Hits from Carter, Di Dio,
Haley Carlson, Austin, and Friedman lifted to Obies for the 9-7 win.
