OBERLIN, OH- The bats were flying, and the hits piled up for the Oberlin College softball team, but the heavy offensive effort fell short in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan. The Crimson and Gold fell 9-7 in game one before dropping a 10-4 contest in game two. Oberlin falls to 5-23 on the regular season at 2-10 in conference action.
GAME ONE | Ohio Wesleyan 9, Oberlin 7
Haley Alspach was mowing people down on Saturday, punching out eight Ohio Wesleyan hitters over seven innings of work.
At the plate, the Yeowomen were led by Haley Carlson, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Wren Norris put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Loren Carter also contributed for Oberlin, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a pair of doubles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson and Gold got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Alspach came across to score the lone run for Oberlin, as they took a 1-0 lead.
The Yeowomen lost the advantage they built in the first, but got back on the board in the second. Oberlin picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from Carter, which brought the score to 4-3 in favor of the Battling Bishops.
Ohio Wesleyan built their lead to 5-3 before the Crimson and Gold offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 5-4 in the third. The Yeowomen scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Carlson to bring Katie Austin home.
The Battling Bishops expanded their lead to 9-4 before the Oberlin offense got back in action, digging into that lead in the fifth. tightening the OWU lead to 9-7. The Yeowomen were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yeowomen were trailing 3-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Thanks to Carter's RBI double, Oberlin cut the Bishops lead to two.
Oberlin's deficit expanded to 5-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that lead in the third inning. Means came across to score the lone run of the inning for Oberlin, which tightened the Battling Bishop's advantage to 5-2.
Oberlin's offense got going again in the fifth, reducing that lead to 7-4. The Yeowomen picked up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple from Norris. The Yeomen were unable to get any closer, as Ohio Wesleyan added three runs to their tally on the way to a 10-4 final.
