Oberlin Shut Down in Home Season Finale

OBERLIN, OH- In their final home game of the season, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team came up short against Kenyon on a chilly Wednesday night. The 15-4 final pushes the Crimson and Gold back to 1-4 in NCAC action and 5-11 overall.

With a career-high seven ground balls in the defensive effort, Lauren Mills added another two caused turnovers and two points in the rivalry matchup. Emily Shimabukuro led the attack with two goals, while Audrey Koren added a goal and assist to round out the scoring.

Janny McCormick and Emily Berger split halves in cage, with McCormick earning the start and collecting six saves. Berger tallied four saves in addition to three ground balls.

Oberlin got on the board first after Koren found Mills inside the eight for the shot. Koren struck gold again minutes later when she capitalized on a man-up, free position opportunity. Kenyon finally caught up to the Yeowomen's momentum at the 9:29 mark when the Owls scored their first goal. Kenyon added one more score to tie the game at 2-2 before heading into the second quarter.

After giving up three goals right away, Oberlin earned a man-up advantage where Larissa Andrick connected with Shimabukuro for the team's third goal. The Owls responded with three more of their own before the half, bringing the score to 8-3.

The third quarter was all Kenyon, as the visitors extended their lead to 12-3 before Mills passed to Shimabukuro to end the Yeowomen's scoring drought. Oberlin was unable to score again in the final period of play, as Kenyon tacked on three insurance goals to cap the contest at 15-4.

The Crimson and Gold round out their season this Saturday, April 27, when they head to Wooster for a noon match.
