OBERLIN, OH- After celebrating their eight seniors, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team bested Wittenberg 15-12 on Saturday evening on Bailey Field. The senior day victory marks the Yeowomen's first NCAC win of the season, improving their record to 1-3 in the conference and 5-10 overall.

The graduating seniors excelled in the Saturday matchup, led by
Emily Shimabukuro with a career-high six goals. Senior
Audrey Koren chipped in two assists and a goal, while defender
Kaela Wilson contributed two points in the contest.
Caroline Lee tallied an assist and a ground ball on the day.
Abbie Patchen, team-leader in points, added one goal and one assist to round out the offense..Â

Defensively,
Becca Galbraith earned her first career start in goal, tallying one save before sophomore
Janny McCormick made her way in as relief. The second-year protected the net throughout the game, saving 13 shots on goal while grabbing three ground balls.
Martha Hays and
Maya Blevins backed the defense as Blevins cleaned up three ground balls and Hays gathered one draw control.Â

Looking to revitalize the offense after seven straight losses, the Yeowomen got started right away. Shimabukuro earned her 20th goal of the season off of a
Megan Hiller assist in the early minutes of the game. Wittenberg responded with a pair of goals, but the Crimson and Gold answered with three straight scores to close the quarter.Â

In a highly contested second quarter, the conference competitors swapped a series of goals. The Tigers started off the second period with a pair of goals to put them ahead 5-4, but once again Shimabukuro answered to tie the match. After trading a slew of goals, Wittenberg came out on top with an 8-7 lead heading into the half.

Opening the second half with new life five different Yeowomen found the back of the net in the first 1:05 to propel the Crimson and Gold to a 12-8 lead. During Oberlin's offensive spark,
Alexis Escobedo and
Katie McMorris netted their first goals of the day.Â

The Yeowomen maintained their four goal lead as the game entered the final quarter of action. Oberlin's defense staved off Wittenberg's offensive attempts as
Lauren Mills,
Olivia Mohel, and Escobedo each caused at least one turnover aginstthe Tigers. The Crimson and Gold held off the Tigers in the final quarter of action, to complete 15-12 victory and secure their first conference win.Â

Oberlin returns for their final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 24, when they host the defending conference champs, Kenyon College. The Owls and the Yeowomwen are set to face off at 7 p.m.
