GRANVILLE, OH- Travelling to central Ohio for a matchup with the Denison Big Red, a program that is consistently receiving votes in the national polls, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team lost in a 23-4 contest on Saturday afternoon. The Yeowomen move to 0-3 in conference action and 4-10 overall.
Â
With a pair of goals,
Abbie Patchen gave Oberlin their offensive lead, followed by
Audrey Koren and
Phoebe Dolan with a goal each. Koren added the only assist in the game in addition to a pair of ground balls and caused turnovers.
Mya Valdez held up the defense with three caused turnovers, while
Katie McMorris tallied five draw controls.
Â
Splitting halves in cage,
Janny McCormick earned the start for the Yeowomen, where she accounted for four saves. First-year

Â
The Denison Big Red had their way with Oberlin from the jump, putting up eight goals before the Crimson and Gold responded. After
Alexis Escobedo won the draw for the Yeowomen, a pass from Koren to Patchen found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity. Oberlin could not contain the conference leaders, who finished the half 17-1 over the Yeowomen.
Â
The Yeowomen jumped out with fire to start the third quarter behind a caused turnover from
Maya Blevins. Fresh in cage, Berger scooped the loose ball to clear possession for the Crimson and Gold. The break downfield gave the Dolan a number advantage, who capitalized on the momentum with a goal at the 13:02 mark.
Â
After the rest of the quarter proved unsuccessful for Oberlin, Patchen and Koren both tallied man-up goals in the opening minutes of the final period. Back at full strength, Denison dominated possession of the ball and held the Yeowomen off the board to clinch the game 23-4.
Â
The Crimson and Gold return home to celebrate their eight seniors next Saturday, April 20. The NCAC match against Wittenberg will begin at 4 p.m. with Oberlin's senior celebration prior to the start of the game.
