OBERLIN, OH- After a well-paced start to the game, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team fell 14-8 to Ohio Wesleyan on a rainy Wednesday night. The Yeowomen fall to 4-9 overall with the loss, and drop to 0-2 in conference action
Â
Larissa Andrick had a fantastic night on the turf, snagging two goals on as many shots. Second-year
Megan Hiller also added a pair of points, complimented by two ground balls and a draw control.
Alexis Escobedo led the team with four ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Lauren Mills and
Olivia Corradi each pulled in three draw controls.
Â
Between the pipes,
Janny McCormick made 12 stops to go along with one ground ball.
Â
Out of the gates the Yeowomen looked ready for battle, winning the opening draw control and putting up the first goal off the stick of
Audrey Koren. Although the Bishops responded with a pair of goals right away,
Abbie Patchen added another to keep the score even. The two NCAC foes swapped goals, but Hiller added another two for the Crimson and Gold as they sat behind just one point to OWU.
Â
After Koren found
Emily Shimabukuro to tie the game at 5-5 to start the second quarter, Ohio Wesleyan found their rhythm and held the Yeowomen scoreless over the final minutes of the half. The visitors added a pair of goals during Oberlin's drought, bringing the score to 7-5 ahead of the halftime break.
Â
The Bishops capped their run at 3-0 when Andrick drove up the middle of the eight to put Oberlin back on the board. Even with the morale boost, the game continued to slip away from the Yeowomen as they sat behind OWU 13-7 at the end of the third quarter. It was Andrick again in the final minute of action, but the quarter's lone goal was not enough for Oberlin to get ahead as the home team fell 14-8 on Bailey Field.
Â
Oberlin hits the road for a challenging conference matchup against the Denison Big Red, who have been receiving votes in the national poll. The first draw is set to go up at 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 13.
