Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team suffered an 18-9 setback to Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
The result snapped a four-game winning streak for the Yeomen as they fell back to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC.
Solomon Brennan and
Ryan Blasberg led the attack with three points each, while
Gavin Girard and
Colin Taylor paced the defense with five ground balls each and combined for seven caused turnovers.
OWU deposited the first three goals of the game until Blasberg got the Yeomen on the board with the help of a
Jack Duffy assist with 2:37 left in the opening period.
The Bishops led 6-1 in the early going of the second quarter but the Yeomen would put a little pressure back on the Bishops as Brennan followed
Jacob Abdi's first-career goal to make it 7-4 with 100 seconds left in the half. However, Spencer Amacher found the back of the cage to make it a four-goal OWU advantage at the intermission.
Oberlin was searching for some second-half momentum but was unable to find it as the Bishops scored the first five goals of the third quarter to effectively put the game out of reach.
OWU finished with a 46-36 advantage in shots, which included a 30-22 differential in shots on goal. The Bishops also had a slight 41-35 edge in ground balls.
Trevon Flynn ended 15-of-31 at the face-off X and scooped up 11 ground balls, while
Jake Pillsbury made 12 saves between the pipes.
Oberlin returns to action next Saturday when it welcomes Wittenberg University to town for a 1 p.m. conference clash.
