Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Oberlin Overpowered by Top-Ranked Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, KY- On the first leg of their spring break trip, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team traveled south to take on NAIA's top team, the University of the Cumberlands Patriots. In a sluggish, slow-paced game, the Yeowomen tallied just three goals in the 14-3 loss. Oberlin falls to 4-5 on the season with a pair of games to play before they open conference action.

First-year Phoebe Dolan led the scoring for Oberlin with a pair of goals in the low-scoring contest. Audrey Koren tallied the other score, while Olivia Corradi earned an assist on top of three ground balls. Seven different Yeowomen forced turnovers on the Patriots, with three coming in clutch in the final quarter.

The Crimson and Gold got off to a great start after the whistle, as Caroline Lee won the draw to give Oberlin the opening possession. Cumberlands' keeper saved Corradi's first shot on cage just before Megan Hiller's free position attempt also came up short. It was the UC offense that got on the board first, with two goals in seven seconds. The home team added another goal just 30 seconds later to jump ahead of Oberlin 3-0.

Looking to help get the Yeowomen back on track, Janny McCormick made a stop before Kaela Wilson forced a turnover, but it was Oberlin's errant passes that limited any offensive momentum. Oberlin tallied ten unforced turnovers in the first half as they trailed 10-0 with two quarters left to play.

Midway through the third period, the Yeowomen finally found the offensive rhythm they were looking for with a goal at the 7:39 mark. Corradi's free position shot ricocheted off the defense, where she was able to pick up the loose ball and find Koren in the center of the eight for the goal.

Oberlin didn't score again until the final quarter when Dolan drove down the middle for a goal. In the last two minutes, the rookie added one more to her stat sheet, as the Yeowomen fell 14-3 to the Patriots.

Oberlin gets going again when they return to regular NCAA competition to take on DIII opponent Sewanee on Wednesday, March 27. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
