Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Trio of Career-Highs Lead Oberlin Past Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, OH- Making the short trip to their non-conference rival, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team brought home a 13-8 win over Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday night. The Crimson and Gold bring their season record to 4-3 overall.

Abbie Patchen, Lauren Mills, and Alexis Escobedo had career performances in the evening's contest against the Yellow Jackets. Patchen tallied eight points, comprised of four goals and four assists. Mills led the team in goals with five, marking the second time in her career that she has accounted for five goals in a game. In the midfield, Escobedo brought down six draw controls to account for more than half of Oberlin's 11 draw controls.

Oberlin looked shaky in the opening minutes of the game, giving up an early goal to the Yellow Jackets. The Yeowomen regrouped and responded with back-to-back goals, first coming off a pass from Patchen to Emily Shimabukuro. Patchen scored again less than two minutes later, capitalizing on the free position. With just seconds left, BW struck again to tie the score at 2-2.

After giving up another quick goal to BW, Mills and Patchen accounted for six straight Oberlin goals to give the Yeowomen their largest lead of the night. Up 8-3 on the Yellow Jackets, Megan Hiller extended that lead to nine after Kaela Wilson forced a turnover in the midfield to regain possession. Baldwin Wallace finally ended the drought but Mill and Escobedo grabbed two more goals for an 11-4 Oberlin lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Yellow Jackets looked to mount a comeback in the final period of play, outscoring the Yeowomen 4-2. A pair of saves from McCormick on the doorstep of the goal, held BW off the board, and lifted the Yeowomen over their rivals 13-8.

Oberlin returns to action this weekend when they host Mount Union on Saturday, March 16. The Crimson and Gold and the Purple Raiders are set to go at 12 p.m.
