Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Oberlin’s Balanced Attack Dominates Colonels

DANVILLE, KY- With ten players scoring at least one goal, the Oberlin College women's lacrosse team dominated Centre 20-6 on Saturday afternoon. The Yeowomen improve to 2-1 on the season.

Phoebe Dolan, Audrey Koren, and Lauren Mills each recorded a hat trick in the lopsided match, while Megan Hiller led the team in points with two goals and two assists to go along with an impressive six ground balls. On the draw, Giuliana Urban commanded the Crimson and Gold with a team-high five draw controls, while teammate Olivia Corradi followed with four.

Janny McCormick led the team in saves with ten, but Taryn Schwartz and Emily Berger each clocked time in cage at 15 minutes apiece.

The Centre Colonels came out swinging, scoring their first goal at the 14:11 mark. The Yeowomen took their time settling into the game, but it was a caused turnover by Alexis Escobedo that really got the Crimson and Gold moving. The change in possession gave way to Dolan's first goal of the game, followed by a score from Escobedo to give Oberlin the 2-1 lead. The Crimson and Gold scored four more unanswered goals before Centre regained their flow. At the buzzer, Abbie Patchen extended Oberlin's lead to six off a pass from Hiller in the eight.

Oberlin's route of Centre continued into the second quarter, where the Yeowomen tacked on five more goals to take a 13-2 lead. Maya Blevins's goals at the 2:42 mark earned Oberlin a running clock as the Crimson and Gold looked settled in their attack ahead of the break.

In back-to-back possessions, Patchen and Escobedo scored for Oberlin, extending the run to 8-0. The Colonels got back on their feet with a goal at 8:59, but the Yeowomen were too much for Centre to handle as they responded with another strike. Well over double the Colonels' point total, the Yeowomen shared the love on offense, culminating in a goal from defender Kaela Wilson. Fellow backline mainstay Caroline Lee got in on the action with a pair of goals in the final minutes of play. The Crimson and Gold were too potent for the Colonels to slow down, as Oberlin took the game by a score of 20-6.

Women's lacrosse gets back on the field next Wednesday, February 28, for a home match against the Otterbein Cardinals. The game on Bailey Field is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
