Women's Basketball Drops Home Finale to Wittenberg

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin women's basketball team closed out the home portion of its schedule, falling 75-57 to the Wittenberg University Tigers on Wednesday night at Philips Gym. 

Reigning NCAC Player of the Week Camille Zinaich paced the Yeowomen (16-8, 7-6) with nine points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Alyson Jefferson tacked on 14 points and two steals and Krystal Montas helped out with nine points and three blocks.

The Oberlin defense caused its share of mistakes in Wednesday's game, forcing 13 Wittenberg turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the offensive end of the floor. Zinaich's three steals led the way individually for the Yeomen.

How It Happened
After falling behind 6-0, Oberlin went on a 6-0 run with 6:06 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Montas, to tie the game at six. Wittenberg then pulled ahead, sending the Yeowomen into the second quarter down 15-11.

Oberlin cut the Tigers lead to 17-16 before going on a 5-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. The Tigers then came roaring back to take a 34-29 advantage heading into halftime.

Oberlin's deficit continued to grow after the break as the Tigers outscored Oberlin 18-11 in the third quarter. Oberlin faced a 52-40 differential heading to the fourth quarter and never threatened the eventual outcome.

Wittenberg kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 63-44 lead before Oberlin went on a 5-0 spurt, finished off by Anora Lee's layup, to shrink the deficit to 63-49 with 5:23 to go in the contest but it was too little too late for OC.
