Alma, Michigan – In their highest scoring game since the start of last season, the Oberlin College women's basketball team downed the Alma Scots, 79-70, on Tuesday night. The road match saw

Krystal Montas, and
Ellie Pollock-Ballard combine for 61 points as the Crimson and Gold move to 4-3 on the season.
Zinaich led the high-scoring trio with 21 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, while also adding three steals. The senior surpassed the 20-point mark for the third time this season, while her six assists are the most for her thus far. Pollock-Ballard was automatic from behind the arch, with five three-pointers, including four in the first half. The sharp-shooter finished with 20 points for just the second time in her career. The final piece of Oberlin's offensive puzzle was Montas, who scored a career-high 20 points, shooting 4-of-6 from behind the arch.
Angela Kumler contributed all-around with a notable defensive effort, recording three blocks and four steals, in addition to providing seven assists. Notching a career-high for assists,
Lily Najmulski excelled in playmaking, leading the team with ten.
Oberlin got off to a strong start after Pollock-Ballard hit back-to-back three-pointers. Zinaich extended the lead to 10-3 with another pair of jumpers, prompting the Scots to call a timeout. Alma evened the game at 15-15, but it was the Crimson and Gold who struck last, highlighted by a three-pointer from
Allison Bubar.
Picking up where they left off, Gabby Peña-Hilzen opened the scoring after turning her own steal into a layup on the fast-break. With a double-digit lead, the Yeowomen looked to cruise through the final minutes of the half, but the Scots picked up the pace with a 13-3 run to tie the game 35-35 at the break.
Coming oof the break, the Scots defensive led to an early three-pointer to take the lead. Zinaich responded with multiple jumpers and a free throw to regain a slight lead for the Yeowomen. The found their rhythm again, this time on the back of Brooke Leroux and Cadence Kaminski, who each hit key triples. Despite Oberlin's late rally with Montas hitting a crucial trey to narrow the gap, the Scots maintained their lead with steady free-throw shooting, closing the quarter at 57-56.
In the final period of play, the Crimson and Gold capitalized on their strong shooting accuracy, scoring 10-of-14 from the field. Montas led the Yeowomen with several clutch layups, including one at the start that put Oberlin ahead 58-57. Oberlin continued to take advantage of their strengths, coming up with points after Alma committed seven turnovers. Pollock-Ballard scored the game-winning shot at the 4:42 mark, hitting a jump shot after Kumler made a rebound and passed it her way. Holding on from that 72-60 lead, Oberlin clinched the eventual 79-70 victory.
Oberlin breaks for the holiday intermission, before returning to the court to open North Coast play. Taking the road, the Yeowomen challenge the Wooster Fighting Scots next Wednesday, December 4 for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
