Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's soccer team capped off another great season with a decisive victory over the Kenyon Owls on Saturday evening. Senior
Heather Benway lifted the Yeowomen to victory with both goals in the 2-0 win.
Ali Grant paced the Oberlin backline of
Sofia Mitchell and
Lauren Roche, who held Kenyon to just two shots through 90 minutes. The Owls only managed on shot on goal against the Crimson and Gold, where Grant came up for the save.
Oberlin took control early, with Benway netting the opening goal at 24:05 in the first half, assisted by
Sophia Timm-Blow. Her offensive persistence paid off again in the 61
st minute, when she struck once more to double Oberlin's lead and secure the victory
Averi Williams and
Zoe Garver also contributed to Oberlin's relentless attack, with Garver notching three shots and Williams keeping the Kenyon defense on its toes with attempts from all angles.
Throughout the game, Oberlin's defense held firm, with goalkeeper Grant making a critical save in the 11
th minute to preserve the shutout. Meanwhile, Oberlin's offense kept up the pressure, tallying 28 shots in total, ten of which were on target.
After guiding the offense to a victory in their season finale, Benway clinches her position as the conference leader in both goals (11) and points (24).
This victory was a fitting end to a competitive season for Oberlin, who finishes 3-3-1 in NCAC action, and 7-7-2 overall.
