Atlanta, Georgia – Completing their two-day tourney at the Emory Classic, the Oberlin College women's basketball team fell to (RV) Emory on Sunday afternoon. The low-scoring affair left the Yeowomen on the wrong end of a 60-28 final, moving them to an even 2-2 on the season.
Camille Zinaich led Oberlin with a strong performance, scoring ten points, hitting 5-13 field goal attempts, and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Lily Najmulski contributed six points coming off a pair of three-pointers, and added an assist and a steal.
Ellie Pollock-Ballard also made an impact with three points and two rebounds.
In the first quarter, Oberlin and the Eagles exchanged control multiple times, with the score remaining close throughout. Zinaich opened the scoring with a jumper, but Emory quickly responded with a layup to tie the game at 2-2. Pollock-Ballard hit a crucial three-pointer at the 2:00 mark to give Oberlin a temporary 11-9 advantage, but the Eagles responded with a trey of their own to take a 13-11 lead into the break
The Yeowomen struggled to keep their offensive momentum against a strong Eagles defense, but Zinaich made notable contributions, scoring twice, including a jumper in the paint, to keep the Crimson and Gold competitive. Emory tacked on a pair of buckets in the final minutes, extending Emory's lead to 28-19 at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room Oberlin's offensive struggled continued to mount. It wasn't until
Krystal Montas hit a free throw at the 4:35 mark that the Yeowomen got on the board in the third quarter. The team's period highlight came just minutes later when Ziniach stole the ball from Emory and capitalized on the turnover with a jumper in the paint.
Najmulski got the Crimson and Gold offense going in the final period with a three-pointer, but Emory's Caroline Connelly answered with back-to-back layups, pushing the score to 54-25. Emory maintained control throughout, stifling the usually hot Oberlin offense, and keeping the Yeowomen to just six points in the quarter.
Oberlin looks to regain their positive momentum when they travel to Carnegie Mellon for their next game on Wednesday, November 20. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. with the Tartans.
