Waynesburg, Pennsylvania – Securing their fourth-consecutive win, the Oberlin College men's basketball team took down Waynesburg on the road, 67-58 Saturday afternoon. The win showcased Oberlin's balanced attack and defensive grit, as they overcame a scrappy Yellow Jackets squad to move to 4-0 on the season.
A trio of Yeomen finished in double-digits, led by
Andrew Gannon with 16 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. The senior knocked down four three-pointers in the game, making today's match his highest-scoring this season.
JJ Gray added 13 points in the win, with a pair of rebounds and three assists. The Yeomen's all-time assist leader continued his hot streak as
Yuuki Okubo accounted for 11 points and nine assists.
Milun Micanovic led the team with ten rebounds, coming up just shy of his first double-double of the season with eight points. Emphasizing the impressive team effort, every Obie in today's game brought down at least one rebound.
From the tip off, the Yeomen came out firing, with Micanovic's electrifying dunk and Gannon's early three-pointer, putting them up 5-0. Waynesburg's Jaylen Davis responded with a jumper, sparking a brief rally to trim the lead to 5-4.
Despite the Yellow Jackets' efforts, Oberlin maintained control through the first half, with Gray contributing critical jumpers and assists. The highlight of the half came in the closing moments when Okubo sliced through the defense for a layup, securing a narrow 25-23 halftime lead for the Crimson and Gold.
The second half saw Oberlin hit its stride offensively, outscoring Waynesburg 42-35 behind a barrage of seven three-pointers.
Zach Smith was instrumental in the long-range assault, drilling multiple threes, including a crucial shot at the 16:14 mark that extended Oberlin's lead to 36-29.
After losing their lead at 10:08 mark,
Will Bousquette III put the Yeomen back on top for the final time with a shot from behind the arc. Oberlin. While the Yellow Jackets' PJ Suggs made his presence felt in the paint as Waynesburg tried to mount a comeback, Micanovic countered with key steals and defensive rebounds, keeping Waynesburg at bay and securing the Oberlin victory at 67-58.

He continues, "We knew this game was going to be tough from the start, but I we were relentless today. Our guys knew that to be successful on the road, they had to defend and rebound and that is exactly what they did. [It was a] great team win today."
The Yeomen look to continue their winning ways in their next contest, traveling to Michigan to take on Albion. The game is set for Tuesday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m.
