Football Falls at Home to Kenyon

Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College football team lost 34-0 to the visiting Kenyon College Owls on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The Yeomen offense remained stuck in neutral throughout the 60-minute affair, totaling just 113 yards and seven first downs on the day. Ben Suler and Evan Smith-Rooks combined to go 9-of-26 passing for 90 yards. Greg Lane finished with 30 yards on the ground on 10 attempts, while Smith-Rooks had 29 yards on nine carries. Connor Steele led all pass catchers with 63 yards on two receptions. However, the Yeomen offense did not commit a turnover for the first time this season.

The Owls racked up 372 yards and 19 first downs en route to moving to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC. Senior quarterback Park Penrod was an efficient 15-of-27 for 174 yards and a score, while the Owls' ground attack posted 188 yards and four touchdowns. Drake Lewis led the way with 116 yards and two touchdowns on 14 totes of the rock.

Kenyon cashed in its first drive of the game, as Penrod placed a deep ball into the arms of Charlie Taylor for a 38-yard touchdown, capping off a 7-play, 58-yard march that took 4:16 off the clock. The Owls would add two more scores in the second quarter two carry a 20-0 lead into the intermission.

Following the restart it didn't take long for Kenyon to add to its lead as Lewis ripped off a 46 yard TD-run 93 seconds into quarter. The game's scoring would end early in the fourth quarter when Julius Thompson barreled his way into the end zone from 13 yards out.

Oberlin's biggest play of the day came in the form of a 50-yard catch-and-run by Steele in the fourth quarter that put the Yeomen in the red zone, but unfortunately the drive would stall out without points.

The Oberlin defense, which had six tackles for loss, was led by Dane Mentore who finished with a career-high 10 tackles to go with one pass break-up, and four quarterback hurries. Hunter Green made eight stops, two of which went for loss.

The Yeomen are scheduled to host Wabash College on Sunday, October 13 at 12 p.m.
