Women’s Soccer Wins at Wooster

Wooster, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon.

The result marks the second straight year the Yeowomen have defeated the Scots, earning a 2-1 victory last season, which snapped an eight-game skid to the league foe.

The physical affair featured five yellow cards, three of which were shown to Oberlin.

The game's lone goal would come in the 16th minute as senior stalwart Heather Benway delivered her conference-leading eighth goal of the year with the help of a Lauren Roche assist. For Benway, the score ran her career account to 31 and points total to 80.

The Scots had their opportunities throughout, finishing with a 16-10 shot advantage but both teams had just four attempts on frame. The Oberlin rearguard also fended off six Wooster corner kicks in the win.

Ali Grant made three saves in the contest and was aided by her teammates as a key clearance in the 68th minute turned away a would-be Alyssa Lubba goal to keep the clean sheet intact and more importantly with Oberlin in the lead.

The Yeowomen moved to 6-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the NCAC while the Scots dropped back to 8-3-2 and 1-2-0 in league play.

Oberlin is back in action on Saturday afternoon at DePauw University. The first touch is set for 2:30 p.m.
