HIRAM, OH - Securing her second career double-double, Alyson Jefferson led the Oberlin College women's basketball team in a win over the Hiram Terriers 66-61 on Wednesday night. Oberlin improves to 10-2 overall and starts their conference season in the win column.
The Yeowomen had four players score in double figures, led by Jefferson, who notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Camille Zinaich added 15 points, and Ellie Pollock-Ballard chipped in 15 points to go with four assists.
Led by Jefferson's five offensive rebounds, Oberlin succeeded in crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 11 second-chance points.
The Crimson and Gold disrupted Hiram's offensive rhythm, coming away with six blocks led by Katherine Csiszar with two rejections.

How It Happened
After falling behind 4-0, Oberlin went on a 16-0 run with 9:06 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Pollock-Ballard to take a 16-4 lead. The Terriers looked to respond to Oberlin's dominance, but came up short as the Crimson and Gold entered the quarter-break with a 20-9 advantage. Oberlin relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 20 points.
Oberlin kept its first-quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 9:08 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Gina Lombard, to increase its lead to 26-11. The Terriers cut into that lead, but the Crimson and Gold still enjoyed a 30-24 advantage heading into halftime. Oberlin scored two of its ten total points in the period on second-chance opportunities created by pulling down two offensive rebounds.
After intermission, Oberlin held on to its advantage and owned a 48-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Oberlin knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 18 total points.
Oberlin kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Jefferson's layup, to grow the lead to 58-48 with 6:42 to go in the contest. The Terriers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game ended, but the Yeowomen still held on for the 66-61 win. Oberlin got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring five fast break points.
