Rochester, NY -Â After a successful run at the NCAC Preview last week, the Oberlin College cross country teams took their talents to New York for the Rochester Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday morning.
Taking on a mix of NCAA DI, DII, and DIII athletes, the Crimson and Gold finished in the middle of the pack on both sides of the race. In the women's 6k, Oberlin placed 11
th of 21 teams with 313 points, while the men's 8k runners tallied points to finish 9
th of 20 teams.
Kicking off the invitational,
Eliza Medearis crushed the women's 6k, leading the Crimson and Gold with a time of 23:24.3. The senior runner finished 22
nd overall and well within the top-20 of DIII competitors.
First-year
Sophie Mateja took second for Oberlin, with a time of 24:46.
Amber Borofsky rounded out the top-100 finishers for Oberlin, completing the race in 25:11.5.
Oberlin's men's team placed a pair of harriers inside the top-50, led by
Walter Moak in 38
th with a time of 26:40.9. Less than a second later,
Johnny Ragsdale finished in 40
th and earned a new personal best time of 26:41.1.
Charlie Endres also completed the 8k race with a new personal best at 27:02.2, nearly a full minute faster than his previous record.
Coming in just inside the top-100 were
Aidan Duffield (27:34.7),
Liam Newman (27:43.2),
Danny Markey (27:52.1), and first-year
Will Gordon (27:52.4).
The cross country teams take a short hiatus before returning to the course when they head to Terre Haute, Indiana for the Nike XC Town Cross Country Twilight hosted by Rose-Hulman on Friday, September 29.
