Indianapolis, Ind. – In his first year of collegiate competition, record-setter
Namu Makatiani represented the Oberlin College track and field team in the triple jump event at the NCAA DIII Outdoor National Championships.
After being seeded 22
nd, the rookie finished 21
st overall with a jump of 43-08.50 (13.32m). Makatiani's best jump came on his third try after leaping 42-06.25 (12.96m) and 43-00.50 (13.12m) in his first and second attempts, respectively.
Makatiani earned his bid into the national competition after breaking the school record with a jump of 47-10.75 (14.60m) at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Invitational earlier this month.
Now finished with the outdoor season, the young talent and the rest of the Crimson and Gold take the summer break to prepare and look ahead to next year's competition.
